New Dates for the new decade

We have recieved our first preliminary radio-carbon dates from SUERC in Glasgow.  These were samples taken from the submerged peat deposits and the submerged willow (not alder) tree stump.

The lowest peat sample at about -8.5m dates to 5310-5060 cal BC, the next highest to 4800-4620 cal BC whilst the tree died between 4800-4620 cal BC. This puts the date at which the peat formed/the tree died as being during the Late Mesolithic.   The results are plotted on the following. Results on SL plot.

There are more dates being processed and the samples are currently being prepped for palaeoenvironmental analysis.
